Liturgical languages in Catholic Churches...
#1
Quite a few reading references below, in reverse order, but the implications are most challenging ... there is no competition of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with the Roman Catholic Church, obviously, but why "Ukrainian" - well it is not Greek, meaning Greece, why not Byzantine Catholic Church - but then there is no Byzantium. There is a Romanian Greek Catholic Church (RGCC) and a Hungarian Greek Catholic Church (HGCC), therefore there is validity for UGCC. So it seems that since Ukrainian communities are all over the world (Americas, Near and Far East, Australia, Africa etc.) and are practicing Byzantine Rite Catholic religion and most of them tend to speak the local languages, of the simple fact that they are globally distributed they are becoming a "Global Church". It seems that intermarriages with other ethnic groups and religions, don't seem to interfere with their religious practices. "Ukrainian Catholic" sounds "nationalistic" or is "Ukrainian Catholic" assuming the same inference as "Roman Catholic". I am most impressed with the articles of Rev. Siemens and Rev. Reves.

"Our Patriarch Sviatoslav however gives me great hope for this vision: during a visit to Winnipeg, Canada in 2012, Patriarch Sviatoslav was asked by a young man where he fit into the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church as neither he nor his parents spoke Ukrainian. The Patriarch answered: "This is not a church of Ukrainians, it's a church of Christ . . . We are a global Church. We are a church of the Ukrainian tradition."[20]"
